4th Hong Kong Underwater Robot Challenge 2009 2009-04-12

A team of MFS students won 2nd runner-up in the Hong Kong Underwater Robot Challenge (香港潛水機械人挑戰賽), Hong Kong Regional of the MATE International ROV Competition. It was held by the City University of Hong Kong on 11 and 12 April 2009. They received a trophy and 3000 HKD cash. They would like to donate all that 3000 HKD to contribute for the next ROV in the coming year. They are:

Wan Pak Hang (6LA)
Tam Shui Wai (6LS)
Lau Tak Kin (4D)
Lau Tak Shing (4D)
Wong Lai Kwan (3C)
Tsui Wing Sze (2A)

The team spent months designing and building underwater robots fitted with cameras and motor that can be controlled remotely by an operator on the surface. They also need to provide technical reports, posters, and technical presentations for the judges.

In addition to being fun and educational, these competitions connect students and educators with employers and working professionals from marine industries, highlight marine-related career opportunities, and promote the development of technical, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. The theme of ROV in 2009 is “The Next Generation of Submarine Rescue Vehicles”. Winners in Hong Kong will go to the World Finals in USA in June 2009.

Congratulations to the winners!
