Growing Together: Parents, Teachers, and Students Bond Over Bonsai Cultivation

In May, the Parent-Teacher Association hosted a special bonsai workshop that brought together students, teachers, and parents in a hands-on exploration of bonsai. Led by a local bonsai expert, participants learned the techniques required to cultivate and care for these meticulously shaped miniature trees.

During the workshop, everyone had the chance to select their own bonsai plant and get step-by-step guidance on pruning, repotting their new creations, and decorating their “little garden”. The results were truly stunning, as participants incorporated small decorative elements like figurines and bridges to enhance the plants’ natural beauty and landscape. Many were amazed by the level of detail and patience needed to shape and maintain these delicate living sculptures.

Beyond the practical cultivation skills, the workshop also provided an opportunity for the school community to come together and connect over a shared creative pursuit. Parents, students, and teachers collaborated, shared tips, and admired each other’s unique bonsai designs. This event not only taught valuable gardening techniques, but also fostered a sense of unity.

Some of the bonsais created by parents will be gifted to winners of the “The Most Respected Teacher” election in the Parents-Also-Appreciate-Teachers Drive activity.
