On 8 July 2026, our F.4 History and Chinese History students stepped back in time during an exciting visit to the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre. The centre is located inside the Sam Tung Uk Museum in Tsuen Wan. This special site is a 200-year-old Hakka walled village. Walking through the historic lanes allowed students to see how people lived centuries ago. It provided the perfect backdrop for exploring Hong Kong's deep roots.

The highlight of the trip was a unique crafting workshop called "Cantonese Opera in Bamboo Theatre." Students did not just watch—they rolled up their sleeves and got to work. They learned how workers tie bamboo poles together using only plastic strips (traditionally bamboo splints) to create massive, sturdy structures. They also get a vivid understanding of these temporary but fascinating theatres built specifically for traditional festivals in Hong Kong.

By linking the architectural craft of bamboo theatres with the performing art of Cantonese Opera, the F.4 students gained a deeper respect for the living traditions that continue to shape Hong Kong’s identity today.
